Mr. Bowley is a colorectal and general surgeon with a specialist interest in bowel cancer surgery and inflammatory bowel disease. Employing the full range of open and laparoscopic techniques, Mr. Bowley enjoys working within a multidisciplinary team to care for patients with complex surgical problems. He is an experienced emergency general surgeon and is one of only a few general surgeons in the region to retain an interest in the general surgery of childhood.Mr. Bowley is a military surgeon who was first appointed as Honorary Consultant to the Trust in 2005. As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps, Mr. Bowley has regularly deployed in support of British troops worldwide. Mr. Bowley trained in general surgery at Plymouth, Oxford and St. Marks Hospital, London. During his training, he undertook fellowships in trauma surgery and general paediatric surgery in South Africa. Throughout his career, Mr. Bowley has maintained an interest in clinical research, publishing numerous papers and book chapters [ link] . He is the co-author of a popular postgraduate textbook “Fundamentals of Surgical Practice”.
